Guidelines for Linking
In the past, other organizations have created links or used our graphics in ways that
suggested to consumers that NFIC/IFW was either a part of their group or had given their group
some kind of certification. We do not accredit or certify companies in any way, shape or form.
Also, we are not a part of any organization other than the
National Consumers League.
These guidelines are an attempt to avoid such confusion in the future.
- Do not use our logo as a link. All links should be from text. Some organizations
provide certification programs where, after they have investigated a company thoroughly,
that company is entitled to display the group's logo as a public sign of its legitimacy.
NFIC/IFW does not have such a program. When certain companies have used our logo in a link,
consumers have mistaken it for a sign of such a program.
- Do not link to us within a frame. Sometimes a link from a frames-enabled
site will bring up our website within the other site's frames. To the inexperienced, this
can make it appear as if NFIC/IFW is a part of the other website. If you are linking from
a frames-enabled site, we ask that you use the <TARGET="_top"> command
within your link.
- Link back to the source page. If you are reprinting or paraphrasing information,
link back to the original source on our site. This will help a consumer find more details
and other information that may be of interest.
- Always refer to us properly. If you wish to refer to us in full, please use
the phrase the National Consumers League's National Fraud Information Center or the
National Consumers League's Internet Fraud Watch. The abbreviations for the
National Fraud Information Center and Internet Fraud Watch are NFIC and IFW
respectively. Only use the abbreviations if you are referring to us repeatedly on a single
page.
